A Short Book Review

I recently purchased this book off Amazon.com (long URL, huh!):

I was pretty pleased with it, but it was definitely different than what I expected. I am used to the Ospreys where the pictures are isolated on a white background. This book, however, was quite different! All of the "plates" are full colour artwork - which I loved.

One thing to note is that, even though this book is called "Solders and Uniforms of the Napoleonic Wars", it really should be titled "French Uniforms....". There are very few plates that are of the allies - and I would say at least %90 of the pictures are of the Frenchies. So, if you are building a French army, this book should go on your Must Get list. If you are building an Allied army, however, I wouldn't purchase this book.

And if you just like uniforms of the Napoleonic Wars, and love looking at pretty pictures, this book is a must have! Overall I was very pleased, but mind - this book really only contains pictures of the French. After all, the authors ARE from France......

Well, you might have noticed that this blog has essentially become my photo gallery. I hope to change that! From now on, I will try and give you some more variety - AAR's, rants, book reviews, movie reviews, etc.

Yesterday I received two Osprey's in the mail. One was on Roman Siege warfare, and the other on Early Roman Armies. After glancing through both, they look very promising. I am starting to read through the siege warfare one. The illustrations in it are particularly good.

Also yesterday, I ordered some minis and shield transfers from the Age of Arthur. I bought some WestWind, Foundry, and Gripping Beast Romano-British, with decals from LBM and VVV. After painting and comparing, I will write up a review for Wargames.Nordalia. Believe it or not, these are the first Foundry models that I have purchased! I can't wait to receive them and start painting... the sculpts look really tempting.
