How I Base My Models

Some people have asked how I base my miniatures, so here is a tutorial with pics.

First I use cheap Spakling paste and cover the base of the model. Spakling paste is what sheetwall installers use to fix up house rooves and such. Some people have a hard time finding this... but all you have to do is walk into any good hardware store and ask for pre-mixed spakling paste, and get some that dries in about an hour. It really isn't that complicated. :-)

Next coat the base in thinned down glue and dip it in some regular sand. I actually pinched mine from a local sandbox!

Next, I paint the sand in a watered down Territorial Beige. I use acrylic craft paints for my bases, using mainly the Apple Barrel, Delta Ceramacoat, and Folk Art brands. I get these quite cheaply from Wal-Mart.

This is followed by a heavy drybrush of Country Tan.

Now, I do a light drybrush with Linen.

Once this is done, I apply some Games Workshop static grass, and the base is done! Make sure not to apply too much grass, as this gives the base an overcrowded look.
