Painting Shields

Shields are a very hard thing to paint - but I believe that I have finally found a good way of doing them. Take a look at this model:

I did a basecoat of Foundry Base Sand Shade, than applied a decal. Now, in oval lines I painted stripes around the shield in Foundry Base Sand Medium. Than, go over all of the stripes with a thin mix of paint and water (Base Sand Medium). This mix is NOT a wash - it is just really watery paint! If it is too watery, than it will run everywhere and ruin the shield. Next I painted the highlight along the edges of the shield in oval shaped stripes - but not to many.

Never leave too much of the basecoat showing... it is essential to remember that!
